Talking Bully
Questions? Or maybe you just want to swap Italian beef stories, predict the Cubs’ next World Series run, or make your case for retiring #23 across the NBA. Either way, we’re in.
Italian Beef Gravy Base is a concentrated flavor base used to create rich, savory gravy for Italian beef sandwiches, roasts, or other meat dishes. It contains a blend of beef stock, tallow, seasonings, and spices that deliver the signature “au jus” flavor associated with Chicago-style Italian beef.
Mix the gravy base with hot water according to the package directions (commonly 1 jar to 3 cups of water). Stir until dissolved and simmer for several minutes to develop full flavor. Add sliced beef, or it can be poured over a protein or used as a dipping au jus.
Yes. Bully Boy the Original Italian Beef Gravy Base can be used as a cooking broth for slow-cooked roasts or as a marinade to infuse flavor into beef before roasting or grilling.
Traditionally, thinly sliced roast beef (top round or sirloin) is ideal, or beef from your local deli. However, it also pairs well with shredded chuck roast, brisket, or other cuts used for sandwiches and platters.
Just like the turf at Soldier Field, Bully Boy is all natural with no MSG.
Yep.
If refrigerated and tightly sealed, the base can typically last up to 3 months after opening. Always follow packaging recommendations and discard if the texture, color, or aroma changes.
Yes. You can freeze unused portions of prepared gravy or even the base itself in airtight containers for up to 6 months. Thaw in the refrigerator and reheat gently before use.
Absolutely! Bully Boy gravy base adds depth and flavor to soups, stews, pot roast gravies, pasta sauces, and even risottos. It’s a versatile umami enhancer for many beef-based recipes.
Bully Boy Italian Beef Gravy is thinner and more broth-like (“au jus” style), with bold, peppery, garlic, and oregano notes. Regular brown gravy is typically thicker and milder in seasoning.
Yes, Bully Boy bases are shelf-stable before opening. Once opened, store refrigerated and follow the handling instructions on the label.
A standard ratio is 1 jar per 3 cups of water, but you can adjust to taste. For dipping sandwiches (“wet” style), a stronger mix delivers the best flavor.

15ish minutes. Seriously, that's all it takes. It takes about 5 minutes to boil the water, then 5 minutes to dissolve the gravy base, and then 5 minutes to cook the sliced beef. Then you can start making your sandwiches and watch the game.
Not yet, but hopefully soon. Depending on your preference, we recommend getting a mild Giardiniera to begin with, and a traditional provolone (not smoked), and any good Italian or French bread to make the sandwich with.
